Lee Funnell talks intelligence trends at Smart Building Conference
March 2016 - Lee Funnell, technical manager EMEA at Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, was an expert panellist at the Smart Building Conference in Amsterdam on 8 February. As part of the Industry Panel on IT Infrastructure, he spoke on the subject of trends in intelligent buildings and joined colleagues from Google, OVG and NG Bailey to answer questions from the audience of around 200 systems integrators, building industry consultants, facilities managers, architects, interior designers and property developers.
Siemon, who sponsored the conference, had specific insight to share on how to create the right infrastructure for smart buildings. Lee Funnell joined other panellists to explain how smart buildings break up the silos of proprietary solutions. He argued that as we move to more open architectures, with interoperability and IP-centric platforms, the correct network architecture is critical. The panel addressed issues such as network design, cabling infrastructure, wireless systems, security, remote access, device connectivity and redundancy.
Ilustrating the power of converged infrastructure in smart buildings, Lee Funnell explained how a structured cabling system can turn into a critical building asset; one that reduces costs, simplifies application deployment, enhances the workplace experience, and maximizes the potential to qualify for all physical layer and audiovisual innovation technology credits. ConvergeIT™ is Siemon's converged, IP-based intelligent building cabling system, which uses a single, simplified structured cabling infrastructure for a smarter, greener building. It is designed to help architects, design-build firms, building owners and contractors plan and deploy efficient IT cabling infrastructure for support of green intelligent buildings, to support services such as voice/data, wireless access, HD CCTV, access control, audio/video, fire alarms, energy management, PoE (Power over Ethernet) lighting and HVAC.
"We are delighted to have been part of the Smart Building Conference and ISE," said Martin Verweij, Regional Director, West Central, Siemon. "We have been at the forefront of providing cabling systems and network infrastructure that create a scalable foundation to enable intelligent buildings and value the opportunity to share our knowledge on this rapidly-evolving subject."
